Press Release 16/1/15

Site investigations for the $15 million Eden Breakwater Wharf Extension Project will begin next week, Minister for Natural Resources, Lands and Water Kevin Humphries and Member for Bega Andrew Constance said today.

“The work will include condition assessment of the existing Breakwater Wharf as well as geotechnical and environmental investigations for the Breakwater Wharf extension and the Safe Boating Options study.

“Crown Lands has engaged Australasian Marine Associates as the principal contractor to undertake the geotechnical and environmental investigations and Haskoning Australia to carry out the condition assessment.”

“The geotechnical and environmental investigations will include use of a jack-up barge and a floating barge to obtain rock and sediment samples within Sung Cove,” Mr Constance said.

We are please to be a supporter of the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital and the protection of native animals

Etching in stone our support of Currumbin Wildlife Hospital

Australasian Marine Associates will soon have a paver engraved as a permanent installation on the walkway leading to the Wildlife Hospital.

Donations, such as ours, help to fund Currumbin Wildlife Hospital and the crucial work that they do to save and preseve our native wildlife for future generations to enjoy.

The Hospital has grown to be one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world, and cares for a growing number of native wildlife patients as bushland habitats continue to disappear, and cases of life threatening disease continues to rise. We look forward to heading to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary soon to see our company's name on the walkway.

AMA Wins Yarra River Maintenance Dredging from Herring Island to Bolte Bridge

Parks Victoria is the waterway manager for the Yarra River and responsible for ensuring safe navigation. They manage several fixed and floating landings as well as the navigational channel of the lower Yarra River.

"The Victorian Government has provided funding to improve commercial and recreational access along the Lower Yarra River through dredging.  This represents the biggest investment into the Yarra River since the 2006 Commonwealth Games. The funding boost means that the precinct will be maintained as a prominent landmark in Melbourne CBD and acknowledges its contribution to the modern culture and social vibrancy of Melbourne.

The aim of the Lower Yarra River Maintenance Dredging Program is to reinstate sufficient water depth at prioritised areas in a manner that minimises disturbance to stakeholders, is consistent with Government guidance and policy and is conducted in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner." Transport Main Roads Queensland turns to AMA and Royal HaskoningDHV for a Maintenance Dredging Strategy in QLD.

One of the most important critical strategy documents for Maintenance Dredging in and around the QLD ports is currently being prepared by our team, in conjunction with our alliance partner, Royal HaskoningDHV. The ports include Gladstone, Port Alma, Hay Point, Mackay, Abbot Point, Townsville, Lucinda, Mourilyan, Cairns, Cooktown, Quintell Beach and Cape Flattery. AMA and RHDHV bring together specialist maritime engineering and marine environmental capabilities in one, integrated team.

Both companies are already working together delivering multi-disciplinary projects such as the technical studies and design and construction of Shorelands Barge Landing and Jetty Facilities at East Arm Wharf in Darwin, and the investigation of the cumulative impacts of shipping and small craft developments in Eden, NSW.

Together with Foreshore Marine, our Jack Up Barge helped to deliver the Geotechnical and Environmental Investigation for the new Cruise Ship Terminal in Eden, NSW.

Australasian Marine Associates prepares Review of Environmental Factors for landmark project in Eden

Mr Constance, the member for Eden, said this is a transformative project for the people of Eden and the South East.

“We are getting on with it and this is a critical step forward in the project that will see the NSW Department of Primary Industries - Lands managing the delivery of this important community project. I am so glad the REF is on exhibition and I am continuing to focus on the wave attenuator project as well."

“As a requirement under Part V of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, the Review of Environmental Factors has addressed all environmental matters likely to be affected by the wharf extension project.” Mr Constance said. Environmental factors include water quality, sea conditions (waves and tides), climate change, flora and fauna communities, dredging and sediment quality, traffic management, port operations, air quality and the acoustic environment.

Australasian Marine Associates  was engaged to ensure that all investigations were completed using current best practise methods and to the fullest extent possible.

Australasian Marine Associates dredges the Swimming Enclosure at the Eastern Beach in Geelong

The City of Greater Geelong contracted Australasian Marine Associates to dredge at Eastern Beach to reduce the build up of seagrass within the famous swimming enclosure. Due to access issues, AMA's auger dredge was lifted by crane into the swimming enclosure. AMA also used its 40 tonne long reach excavator to transport the sand dredged during the works for beach renourishment of the adjacent beach.

Deputy Mayor Trent Sullivan - Chair of the Tourism Portfolio:

"Eastern Beach Bathing Complex is one of the most recognisable features of Geelong and one of the most popular beaches in Victoria. The beach reserve has been Geelong's premier family-friendly destination for more than 80 years so it's important we keep taking care of it.

We've tried a number of methods to reduce the seagrass over the year because it grows so easily.

This year we're dredging the top layer of the seabed to try and ensure swimmers can enjoy the clearer water this Summer."
